I enjoyed the interview. Sent my brain in a lot of directions: like, Lucy has something in common with New Yorker Fran Leibowitz, Golden Visa program still exists but not through real estate (I’m told), newcomers to Lisbon wouldn’t be able to compare it to the old Lisbon, and other thoughts. I can see why Lucy’s blog took off. Same thing that happened to Lisbon happened to NYC. One has to avoid the tourist places these days and maybe that’s a good challenge to have, it’s why we’re staying in Angers France this summer. Anyway, great interview!

Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for the shoutout! I'm a big fan of you and Lucy both, Wise Wherevers of the sort I hope to be one day!

Wait! What? It's Wherevers, not Whatevers? It's hilarious that I got it wrong, and it says a lot about my attitude toward many things.

I think you got it right, actually! Whatever sounds better, just as a word. Truer to the spirit, too.

Loved the podcast! Loved hearing Lucy tell her story. A great cross of Very Local (living abroad before the internet) and Very Online (a blogger from way back.) Shame about Lisbon, but I guess it's the fate of anywhere cool now...

I had a blast talking with you, Elizabeth... well done for getting that huge conversation into 38 minutes!

I knew I would love this and I do. And I agree, Portuguese is not more difficult than French (but my Portuguese is still light years away from my French). Oh, and stay posted for my upcoming piece on being cold in sunny Portugal.

As a former San Franciscan, I understand—it’s not all LA or San Diego sunshine.
