So, we are back in Portugal, this time with the delightful
of Pretending, where she writes and draws about life in Portugal from her wry and frank perspective. If you know
and his terriffic Substack , you’ll understand when I say that Lucy, like me, falls squarely into camp Whatevers—a person who has moved abroad and sees things with a clear eyed honesty that eschews lifestyle fluff and the promise of perfection (and all without learning the language).Although she was born in the UK, Lucy has lived nearly half her life in the villages and towns around Lisbon, where she built a career and raised her family.
When she first moved, it was before the Internet made it possible to arrive in a country without speaking the language or knowing another living soul and instantly find and connect with a community. Thankfully, early on, a friend introduced her to blogging. From there, she built her business and her social network while learning Portuguese and how to navigate village life and her mother-in-law. Amazing!
Over the years, she’s seen many changes in her beloved Portugal, some good, and others… well, click on the podcast, and she’ll explain.
Thanks for listening!
