Today on Finding Home, we get a peek into the adventure that is the life of Gregory Garretson, the author of the popular Living Elsewhere and “Are You One of the Few Americans Who Really Could Move to Europe? Ten questions to ask yourself before you decide to move abroad.”
After a successful career as a linguistics professor in Sweden, he pulled up stakes and followed his heart to Lisbon, where he and his pet turtle, Stjärna, have found a sunny home.
After spending many decades in Europe, Gregory has much to share about living abroad and finding happiness in a foreign country (hint: it will likely involve memorizing irregular verbs). He’s a big advocate for anyone who wants to try this unconventional expatery life and is always delighted to share his experience and wisdom.
Our chat touched on topics near and dear to him: travel, language, and Lisbon. If you’d like to know more, and of course you would, please listen and then subscribe to his terrific Substack.

Finding Home
